Professional Ple 

Rocío Vargas has studied at the University of Costa Rica, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. In 2010 she obtained a degree in Speech Therapy from Universidad Santa Paula and recently a specialization in Disfluences from Universidad de Concepción, Chile.

From 2010 onwards his work has focused on providing speech therapy to various types of populations. She has provided speech therapy to preschool and school children with childhood disorders in her own practice and various preschools. At the same time, it has specialised in the intervention of adult patients with language disorders associated with conditions specific to the adult and elderly population.

In addition to language therapy, he has given oral expression workshops where attendees are trained in communication techniques necessary to develop properly in the academic or work environment. It also offers Spanish for Medical Professions courses for English speaking students. She is a fully bilingual professional and therefore provides her services to many bilingual patients. She currently provides speech therapy to children at Lincoln School of Costa Rica. This institution has its therapists on campus to enhance the learning of its students from a truly multidisciplinary approach.

She has been invited by the Linguistics Department of the University of Costa Rica to give talks on related topics. Also in the School of Physical Therapy of the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica. She has also worked as a facilitator for the International Centre for the Development of the Individual, giving courses on the new approach to stuttering and its speech therapy intervention for speech therapists of the Ministry of Public Education (MEP).

Keeps up to date in the field of speech therapy by participating in courses both at home and abroad. Some of the most recent are:

Why should speech therapy be holistic?

It has been proven that communication disorders are often accompanied by difficulties in other areas of life such as social development, affective, cognitive, motor or sensory so the fundamental objective is to ensure a rehabilitation that is reflected in an overall improvement in the health of patients. When necessary, language therapy proposes to implement an interdisciplinary intervention plan in conjunction with other professionals belonging to our team such as teachers, psychologists, neurologists, occupational therapists, dental pediatricians, among others.
